The Mayor's Visit to 105!

At the end of the school year, we were lucky enough to have Malden's own Mayor Christenson visit our classroom during Linden's Exhibition Day.  Here, Principal Bransfield and the Mayor are being interviewed with our lovely mural project as the backdrop!   Thank you so much for stopping by!

The Linden Exhibition Night went REALLY well yesterday.  My DIY/Mural Art students got a chance to show off all their hard work.  Everyone that stopped into room 105 was so impressed with the fruits of our labor (and the kids have definitely learned that being an artist requires labor, skill and persistence).  The icing on the cake after 2 sessions of Mural Art classes is that the Mayor of Malden came to visit.  He told us that our room was one of the most impressive things he'd seen in a long time.  It means the world to us to get such wonderful recognition for our mural project.  Thank you, Mayor Christenson, for stopping by and sharing our event!

Linden Art Show!

The Linden Steam Academy Art Show went really well!  We had lots of parents and friends stop in to see the student artwork.  We displayed examples from five different areas in our A-Z art program: Ancient Art, Renaissance Art, Early American Art, Impressionist Art and Modern Art.  Our modern abstracts and ancient Grecian urns got a lot of attention.  I am so proud of all my students for their hard work!

The Channel Surfers also got to present the mural in room 105 that they have been working on for the last 12 weeks.  I spent a few days painting the room to prepare it for the next batch of DIY Mural Art students.  We are making a lot of progress and have some great ideas brewing for the next session.  Be sure to check back for developments!

Progress & Technology!

Some of the students are a little camera shy, but they made some fantastic progress with the mural just before February vacation.  I'm continually flattered that so many students voluntarily offer to help in their free time.  As it turns out, I will also be teaching the Mural Project class next session, but there will be a limit to the number of Channel Surfing students who can enroll.  If you want to be a part of the class, get to Mr. Hamylak soon and let him know :)

On Wednesday, we'll be adding a symbol of TECHNOLOGY.  The kids have decided on an iPad or Tablet and we're going to have a wave of binary code flowing from it.  It will be the toughest thing we've done to date, so I hope the kids are prepared for how time consuming painting small text can be! Wish us luck!

Linden Mural Progress!

All the students are very happy with the progress we are making.  The Linden Tiger (our mascot) is coming along nicely.  My students say that sometimes painting a mural comes easy and other times, it can be more difficult and even painful.  We only have 1 hour a week to work, so it's frustrating that we have so many great ideas with so little time.  Lots of students and teachers have been stopping in on Wednesday afternoons to see how the mural is developing and we've had many people volunteer to help.  We are trying to create images that include local landmarks as well as elements of the Linden S.T.E.A.M. Academy's focus: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics.  Check back next week for our chalk outline/sketch of the bubbling beaker as we represent Science!
