Today, the kids really liked our project. We made cardboard cityscapes with old pizza boxes (thanks to Grover & Kathy Taylor of Eat At Jumbo's in Somerville, MA). We cut the sides of the boxes to make our buildings and then students painted them whatever colors they wanted. We used watered-down acrylic paints and eye droppers to apply paint to buildings, then allowed the paint to drip down the cardboard. We used what remained of the pizza boxes for our background (a night sky) and applied white paint with toothpicks and Q-tips for stars. Here are a few pics of the Pizza Box Cityscape project, and student comments follow:
*Here are two great examples from yesterday's lesson
"I liked dripping the paint- it was fun and artistic"
"Drips were too big for my smaller buildings and covered the base color."
"I was surprised at how much fun I could have with pizza boxes"
And again, a personal favorite of the day:
"Amazing opportunity to help the community cut down on waste"
